The Snow depth is an optional setting that recalibrates the Achelous models calculated snow depth. To recalibrate the snow depth at the training period start, you can enter the estimated snow depth in mm water column at the training period start under “snow depth (mm)”. This is in order to avoid the effect of the snow melt calculations under or overestimating the snow melt. If on forecast start, for instance, you know that there is no snow cover for the area in question, whereas the model calculates on the basis of significant snow melt, you can set the snow depth to 0 mm before the training period starts in order to reduce the contribution of snow melt to runoff.
Under “Snow depth (mm)” in the Basin properties field you enter the water equivalent snow depth in mm as an average of the catchment area.
