Automatic download

In order to run the program ”WeatherClient.exe” as a background process, the argument /stop has to be supplied in the command line, which should look like this:

"[Full search path to the program folder]\WeatherClient.exe" /stop

Each time the program is run automatically, it starts by asking the web service, for the current template, the latest update times at Vitec for all weather sources that should be fetched according to the template. It then compares the dates to its own records of update times from the last time the program was run automatically and fetched weather for the current template. The dates are stored in the file: [Aiolos main directory]\Init\WeatherClientUpdates.xml

If the times are identical for a source, it means that the program has already downloaded the latest available data and in that case, no data is fetched for those stations. Moreover, if all data already has been fetched, the program closes down without trying to download anything. In order to ensure that the Aiolos system always has the latest possible data imported, the program can be started quite frequently. After the program has downloaded the weather data, it sends a receipt to the web service with information about how much data was downloaded and how long time the download took. In that way, the web service can keep track of the performance for each individual user when downloading and can alert if the response times deviate significantly from the normal.

OBS!

Weatherclient downloads data and writes it to a temporary QZ-file. It has to be imported into Aiolos. This is obtained by either running the Legacy programs ImpSMHIs and ImpSMHIp for imports into the old file types (wp0,wp1,wp2 and obs) or with the new qz-protocol import with ConsoleUI for new file types (fc2,fc6,fc7,aio2,aio6 and aio7).After this import, the data gets available for Aiolos Forecast Studio.
